St. Nick Day
A German tradition that the Beutel family observed growing up is St. Nick Day in early December. The kids leave a shoe out the night before and St. Nick (who is said to be Santa's helper stoppping by to check in on the behavior of the kids in the house) leaves small treats in their shoes. In this case, Grama and Grampa Beutel send a package each year with Christmas socks or boxers for the adults in the house and Christmas jammies, books and candy for the kiddos. Ben was so excited about it that he kept wanting to set his shoes back out in the hopes that more treats would be delivered!
